Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport and form of self-defense that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Leverage is used to control an opponent while choke-holds or joint locks are used to effect a submission. Its origin began in 1914 when Mitsuyo Maeda brought judo to Brazil. At the time, judo was still commonly referred to as “Jiu-Jitsu”, which explains why the derivative of judo is called Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
